The intersection of Fruitvale Boulevard and 34th avenue in Yakima is dangerous. At some times, it can be too wide to cross safely. In September of 2015, this proved to be true to devastating effect. A man was severely injured while driving across the street when a speeding car slammed into him, throwing him from his own vehicle and onto the nearby railroad tracks.

A lawsuit was filed alleging that the intersection was too dangerous. It has been settled for $3 million, to be paid by the city’s insurance policy. Tamaki Law attorney Bryan G. Smith handled the case and was instrumental in securing this settlement for his client and his family.
